Tsuumi Sound System is an energetic eight-piece ensemble, which fuses the nuances of various forms world music with Finnish tradition. The players all share a full-bodied array of influences, and together, the octet is a unique blend of genuine artistic creation and innovative instrumentation. Diversity is essential to Tsuumi Sound System, along with well-crafted compositions and intensive live performances. Live, Tsuumi Sound System gets back to its dancing-oriented roots. A group of vivid stage personas, their presence is simply captivating. Delicacy and “punch” can both be found sharing a residence in this music, which is organic to the bone. Tsuumi Sound System also tours with the Tsuumi dancing group. Hotas is the fifth Tsuumi Sound System release to date. With the help of producer Roger Tallroth (Väsen), the ensemble has finally captured the energy characteristic of their acclaimed live performances.

Tsuumi Sound System is led by Hannu Kella, who has studied and played the accordion since he was six years old. He is a student in the Folk music department of Sibelius Academy, which has played a major role in fostering the new folk music movement in Finland. Hannu’s music is fresh and eclectic: it is a fusion of many European folk music traditions and rock. Combine the various influences with Finnish tradition and add the band’s original compositions and their somewhat unusual instrumentation, and you have a very unique mixture. All members of Tsuumi Sound System have played an important role in creating the music. In addition to Hannu’s accordion playing, group also features master fiddlers Tommi Asplund and Esko Järvelä, Pilvi Talvitie on piano and harmonium, Jani Kivelä on acoustic and electric guitars and cittern, Joakim Berghäll on saxophones, Tarmo Anttila on double bass, and Jussi Nikula on drums and percussion.
